Weekend Results

Three wins this weekend for Chawton Park. The Ladies Riversmeet team had a perilously close game in Winchester against Riverside despite only winning one rink to Riverside’s two. Chawton Park were able to cling onto the overall win by 57-56. Chawton Park accrue six points and Riverside four. The all important winning rink was Gilly Firmager, Kate Binfield, Jacqui Bowles and Alice Atwell 25-17 winners. Well done to the other two rinks who kept the deficits close losing by just one shot and six shots respectively.

On Sunday morning the Men’s Wessex team played East Dorset in their final group game in the Coastal Division. With two rinks at Home and two away. Chawton produced an emphatic display winning all four rinks and the overall by 97 shots to 39 in the process taking the maximum 16 points available. With other games in the group still to be played Chawton Park cannot be caught at the top of the table and are crowned Coastal division champions. Top rink of the day was Bassa Smith, Dave Thurgood, Ashley Nethercliffe and Gary Starks 31-4 winners. Special thanks to Dom Flannigan who due to an injury (tough game Bowls) made a substitute appearance for the last six ends. With the group stage now nearing completion and the draw for the knock-out section now made Chawton Park will play the at present undecided runners-up of the Thames Division on Sunday 9th March.

On Sunday afternoon Chawton Park’s weekend Friendly team took on Hampshire Past Presidents in a six rink match up. With the home side winning three rinks, drawing one and losing two they extended their unbeaten home record to 10 games winning 96-82 overall. We had two rinks who won by 10 shots but following careful analysis by the match Captain the rink of Jan Northwood, Chris Mace, Derek Allwood and John Milton were crowned top rink by virtue of winning twelve ends as opposed to ten. Chawton Park will look to extend their winning run to eleven games this coming Sunday 2nd March when they take on Alton Social in what is sure to be a keenly contested local derby.
